History, Nature, and Community on 65 Acres

West Milford's beloved historic homestead hosts art shows, stargazing nights, organic gardens, and year-round community events.

About Us

The Wallisch Homestead sits at 65 Lincoln Ave in West Milford, NJ, a 65-acre property where a working organic community garden grows alongside a landscape that has drawn families, artists, and stargazers for generations. The grounds feel genuinely alive, not curated, and that distinction matters. Visitors come for a car show on a Saturday afternoon and end up staying to walk the trails, talk to a gardener, or peer through a telescope at a sky that still gets dark enough to reward the effort.

The homestead is managed by Nature Connection, a nonprofit committed to keeping the land accessible and purposeful. That mission shows in every corner of the property, from the raised garden beds tended by community members to the open fields that double as an event lawn. With a 4.6-star rating built on genuine visitor experiences, this is not a passive historic site. It is a place people return to, season after season, because something new is always happening on land that has been worth preserving.

What We Offer

Wallisch Homestead functions as both a living landscape and a flexible event destination. The organic community garden invites members to grow food alongside neighbors, connecting people to the land in a direct, hands-on way. Astronomy nights bring out telescopes and knowledgeable guides, turning the open fields into an outdoor observatory. Art shows fill the property with local and regional talent, and yoga sessions use the natural surroundings as a backdrop that no studio can replicate.

Private and community events are welcome on the grounds. Car shows, festivals, educational programs, and seasonal gatherings have all found a home here. The property's historic character gives every event a sense of place that rented banquet halls simply cannot offer. Whether a group of 20 or a crowd of several hundred, the homestead's open landscape scales to fit the occasion while keeping the experience rooted in something real.

"Big open fields, historical farm and walk through the marsh to spy birds and other wild life. I have yet to be here when it was "open." I know they have events, a community garden and sunrise yoga in the summer! I'm not sure if it is ever open for guided tours or anything like that, but certainly a peaceful walkabout."
